I love makeup. My collection of drugstore cosmetics reached epic proportions when a Walgreens opened near my house as a teenager. I mean, I probably had enough nail polish at one point to paint a small car. Years later I found myself working at the fragrance counter in Macy’s to earn some extra money during the holidays. It was there that my credit card and I were introduced to designer makeup.
I eventually realized that price and quality don’t always go hand-in-hand and switched back using some of the drugstore brands that I used when I was younger (and apparently wiser). I still enjoy a trip to Sephora as much as the next gal. In fact, there are two products that I gave up trying to find drugstore equivalents for: BUXOM® Lash Volumizing Mascara and NARS® Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30. My quest for cheaper alternatives left me with tarantula leg eyelashes and blotchy skin. Now that I have my two favorites back in my makeup bag, I am obsessed with them all over again. Here is why.
Buxom Lash is the perfect mascara. Period. It lengthens. It volumizes. It doesn’t clump. The waterproof version is basically a clone of the regular version only, you know, waterproof. It holds up all day and through my evening run, yet washes right off with soap and water. No tarantula legs. No cement. The only real drawback is when the compliments from strangers interrupt my introverting.
Some moisturizers are greasy. Some go on like spackle. Some smell like crayons or suntan lotion. NARS’ Pure Radiant does none of these and delivers on everything that its name promises. Skin stays hydrated and free of sun damage all year. It evens skin tone without looking fake. Your skin will feel good, look good, and not smell like much of anything.
